Performance Services

The Performance Clinic is a specialised practice with a number of streams of expertise. We offer you the complete package of care.

Our Performance staff are in constant communication with one another, allowing the best team approach to treatment, prevention and optimising your performance.

Biomechanical assessments / screening & Gait analysis

Preventing injury and optimising performance is beneficial to us all, whether on the sports field, at work or at home. Through a comprehensive assessment of spinal alignment, posture, muscle imbalance, biomechanics and flexibility, and gait analysis any imbalances will be identified. The biomechanical screening will be sport specific.

A programme addressing these inefficiencies will allow you to continue your sport or activity with a decreased risk of injury while enhancing your performance. This programme will increase your understanding of the body's correct mechanics, allowing you to incorporate this into future training.

Our physiotherapist guided approach combines the traditional philosophies of the original Pilates method by Joseph Pilates with the latest scientific research. The original concept of 'core stability' is fused with this new knowledge so we can understand the deep muscle actions needed to function and perform optimally and design programs with long-lasting structural and functional benefits.

Our Performance Podiatrist will assess the lower limb for biomechanical deformities and musculoskeletal injuries. By looking at the way certain joints and muscles function the podiatrists is able to determine if the way you are walking may be contributing to a current injury or may cause an injury in the future.

Common Injuries treated by our Podiatrist:

  • Heel pain
  • Arch pain
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendon injuries
  • Toe pain
  • Shin pain
  • Knee pain
  • Iliotibial band pain
  • Leg length differences
  • Lower back pain.

The secrets to consistently hitting peak performance are within everybody's grasp. Most teams stumble across successful formulas without realising them, and some don't even know it when they've got it. Many coaches, players and athletes are frustrated that they can perform exceptionally well one day and then under-perform the next.

Simon Hartley's work in sport helps coaches, players and athletes to engineer peak performance. Simon coaches teams, players and athletes to be able to control psychological momentum and he help teams and individuals to develop a winning mind-set and create the conditions that deliver success.

  • Flexibility
  • Balance and co-ordination
  • Endurance
  • Power development
  • Core stability
  • Injury prevention and rehabilitation

Our job is to bridge the gap between the theory of training and applied training, helping clients and athletes to get faster, stronger, more flexible so they perform better and steer clear of injuries. Our S+C coach will work closely with you and your coach to design and implement a strength programme specific to your sporting needs and to ensure that the programmes we deliver will enhance your performance.

Performance Nutrition

For any sporting individual aspiring to be a better athlete and compete at their best a good diet cannot be ignored. A poor diet can lead to injury, fatigue, stress, lack of wellness and delayed recovery.

Nutrition plays an important role in improving performance and recovery. Competition nutrition strategies can also be pivotal in sports performance at various stages of a season. When injured, nutrient manipulation is critical to the healing process & inflammatory responses can be curtailed through appropriate dietary advice. Indeed the combination of physiotherapy and selective nutrition can optimise rehabilitation from all injuries. We can offer this complimentary approach to recovery and help athletes resume training quickly and correctly.

Living a healthy lifestyle today is not always easy. A hectic schedule and lack of finances can often leave our eating patterns open to abuse or neglect.

Claire, our Performance Nutritionist will be able to identify specific dietary requirements, food intolerances or allergies and nutrient deficiencies. In other instances, some individuals may need support and guidance for disordered eating or food phobias.

Whatever the problem and whatever the individual's needs, the first step is to undertake an appropriate nutritional assessment in order to establish dietary requirements. Consultations will encompass a nutritional assessment and the development of personalised eating programmes that are practical and feasible within the context of your lifestyle whilst addressing your nutritional requirements. Claire will create a way of eating that works for you, is nutritionally optimal and is long term. There are no quick fixes to good health. Positive steps are an investment in a healthier future and appropriate eating practices need to be well established in order to work.

In order to undergo a nutritional assessment and establish a personal training diet or competition nutrition strategy or for nutritional support during your injury and rehabilitation, contact The Performance Clinic and make an appointment with our Performance Nutritionist and Registered Dietician Claire Harrison.
