Penny Macutkiewicz MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (Sports Physiotherapy), Bsc (Hons) Physiotherapy MCSP.
Elite Sports Physiotherapist, Manager of the Performance Clinic.
Penny is a highly qualified and successful Sports Physiotherapist who has worked in elite sport since 2002 and works with UK Athletics, British Swimming, British Rowing and the English Institute of Sport. Penny regularly travels the world to support the Great Britain Team and has worked at the Summer and Winter Paralympics (Beijing and Turin), the Youth Olympics (Finland) the World University Games, World Athletics Championships, World Swimming Championships, Grand Prix events and European Championships. Penny has also worked on the World Grand Prix Circuit for World Superbikes and was Lead physiotherapist for Team GB Taekwondo.
Tim Pigott BSc(Hons) MCSP MACPSM PGcMSK.
Tim graduated in 2003 at Northumbria University and since then has gone onto gain qualifications from the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine and is working towards his masters degree in manipulative therapy. A passionate sportsman, Tim competes in Triathlon and is a contributor to TriathlonPlus magazine. Tim is a Triathlon Coach at Ryton Triathlon Club, the North East Regional Academy and Athletes With A Disability (AWAD) age group athletes.
Tim is Head Physiotherapist at Durham City Rugby Football Club and is physiotherapist for Team VIper (Visually Impaired Triathlon Team).
Karen Beattie BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy MCSP.
Karen qualified with a BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy in 2003 from Glasgow Caledonian University. She has extensive experience working with elite team sports, in particular, the Great Britain Mens Volleyball team who she has worked with since the commencement of the Olympic programme in 2006. Karen has worked with the English Institute of Sport (Sheffield) since 2007 and her particular interest is the treatment of patellar tendinopathies in jumping athletes.
Karen has travelled extensively with the Great Britain team across the world and has provided physiotherapy support to the team in European League competitions, European and World Championship qualifiers as well as numerous tours. When the team relocated to Holland to compete in the Dutch Premier League for the 2007-2008 season, Karen relocated also to provide continual physiotherapy support for 8 months. She will continue to support the Great Britain Mens volleyball team through to 2012.
James Haycock MSc Manipulative Therapy, BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy MCSP, MMACP.
James graduated with a first class honours degree in 2001. Since that time James has worked predominantly within professional football, working for Newcastle United, the England Futsal team and more recently Hartlepool United as head of physiotherapy. In addition to this James has worked with elite athletes from a variety of sports at the English Institute of Sport.
With a masters degree in manipulative therapy James has a keen interest in the treatment of joint and soft tissue problems, utilising advanced clinical thinking to address pathology. James' expertise is particularly suited to sports injuries, painful or stiff spinal and peripheral joints and soft tissue pathologies. James works hard to facilitate in conjunction with the patient an optimal return to either sport, work or home life. James is currently working on a second Masters qualification in Sports medicine.
Amy Woolstenholmes MSMA, SMT Dip, BSc (Hons).
Performance Masseur
After gaining the Sports Massage Therapy Diploma (Level 4) in 2003 Amy has progressed in her career as a sports Massage Practitioner, now working with a variety of clients from social athletes to elite level competitors. This is reflected in the range of events worked at, such as the Great North Run and the European Indoor Athletics. Throughout the year Amy works with private clients, the EIS and in season with Durham County Cricket Club.
Being on the Board of Directors for the Sports Massage Association (SMA) Amy has helped develop the professional standards within the Sports Massage industry, and although stepped down from the Board, Amy remains the SMA North Regional Representative.
When not treating at any of the above, Amy also lectures at both BTEC and Foundation Degree level courses in Sunderland focusing on the subject of Sports Massage. Lecturing the subject ensures there is constant research and specific CPD for Sports Massage.
Kate Channon MSMA, BTEC SMT DIP, BA (Hons).
Performance Masseur
After qualifying as a Sports Massage Practitioner (level 4) in 2004 Kate has been working with clients which range from those that do sport as a hobby all the way to Elite athletes. The majority of Kate's work has come in Track and Field Athletics where she has travelled with Great Britain Teams, covered UKA domestic and Grand Prix events and also Great Run events.
Kate spends a number of days throughout the year shadowing other sports medical Practitioner as well as mentoring newly qualified sports massage Practitioner in order to maintain a fresh approach to her work.
Simon Hartley
Performance Psychologist
Simon Hartley is an entrepreneur and performance coach. He started life as a sport scientist and sport psychologist. During the last 15 years, he has consistently boosted the performance of Premier League football teams, Premiership rugby union teams, Super League clubs, International Cricket, County Cricket and a host of Olympians through his work with the English Institute of Sport. Simon now applies his skills to enhance the performance of businesses. In addition to performance coaching, Simon has founded and is on the board of numerous young businesses, driving them towards success.
Claire Harrison
Performance Nutritionist & Registered Dietician
As an Accredited Sports Dietician, Claire have worked with elite athletes for more than 20 years.
Initially working as a clinical Dietician in the NHS, Claire went on to establish a business in the delivery of performance nutrition throughout the North East. From 2003-2009 Claire was the nutritionist working with Olympic and Paralympic athletes for the English Institute of Sport, refining her expertise in the nutritional assessment of elite athletes and the development of sport specific nutrition strategies within a diverse range of sports including swimming, gymnastics, rowing, athletics and disability athletics, fencing and sailing, male and female rugby union, pentathlon, table tennis and wrestling. Claire also worked as the club Dietitian with Middlesbrough Football Club for 11 seasons.
Karen Duff
Performance Podiatrist
Karen is a sports specific podiatrist who worked at Edinburgh universitys sports injury clinic for 17 years treating sports people from amateur enthusiast to professional. Since 2005 Karen has worked closely with Ali Rose at Leeds Carnegie sports injury clinic. Karen has worked with many national and international athletes and is currently working with the mens GB basketball team.
Nick Grantham
Performance Strength & Conditioning Coach
Nick began his coaching career at the Lilleshall Sports Injury and Human Performance Centre where he worked for the British Gymnastics Team. Following that Nick worked with the England Netball team, before becoming the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach in the West Midlands for the English Institute of Sport.
Nick has become recognised as a specialist in athletic preparation and has helped clients at all levels achieve their personal goals and ambitions. He has an honours degree in Sport Science and a Master’s degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science from the University of Liverpool. As well as being a certified Strength and Conditioning Coach with the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Nick is recognised by the British Weight Lifters Association and is an accredited member of the UK Strength and Conditioning Association.
A sought after 'expert', Nick has presented seminars and practical demonstrations on strength and conditioning for the Football Association, the National Sports Medicine Institute, the British Olympic Association and the UK Strength and Conditioning Association. Nick has articles published in leading sports publications including Men's Health, Men's Fitness, Maxim, Triathlete's World and Peak Performance as well as a monthly column in Sports Injury Bulletin.
David Macutkiewicz
Sports Physiologist
David Macutkiewicz is a BASES Accredited sports physiologist and has over 10 years experience providing physiological support to both Summer and Winter Olympic athletes. Working as a sports physiologist at the Olympic Medical Institute from 1999 to 2007 David provided performance based and rehabilitation based support to an array of sports ranging from rowing, athletics, archery to biathlon, bobsleigh, speed skating and alpine skiing. In 2007 David took on a research role with Great Britain Women's Field Hockey and is in the process of finishing a PhD in the Physiology of Field Hockey.

Andy Maeir
Chiropractor
Andy is a chiropractor with nearly 10 years of experience. He completed his undergraduate training in South Africa and went on to do his masters at the Anglo European College of Chiropractic in Bournemouth. He has worked with elite paralympic athletes and professional sports teams including Ice Hockey and Rugby. As an ironman triathlete he has a special sporting interest in running, swimming and cycling injuries.
